We are very excited to have launched this new page, which is a forum for sparking discussion about topics affecting women in STEM in the metropolitan New York area.
Here we will cover issues both broad and narrow, the obvious and not-so-obvious, the personal and general. We want to reach people who are already interested in issues affecting women in STEM, as well as those who don’t even know an imbalance exists or how it affects them.
We feel that once people understand that excluding women from STEM hinders societal, intellectual, medical, and economic progress, then everyone - female and male, scientist and artist, activist and business owner - will want gender balance.
We will talk about the hurdles women face in STEM education and careers, and interview inspiring female scientists to give insight into how they managed those challenges. NYC is home to many great resources for girls and women in STEM, which we will tap into and report on.
If you have ideas about topics you would like to see covered, or people you think we should interview, please let us know! Connect with us on Facebook or Twitter and suggest ideas for future blogs.
